My sister had been craving for peri-peri for the past several weeks. So last Saturday, after attending the Holy Mass, we decided to finally end her craving by having our lunch at Nando's. To date, this restaurant has only one branch here in Abu Dhabi; located on the third level (near the movie house) of the World Trade Center Mall.
Nando's is a popular restaurant known to be the home of the best peri-peri in UAE. They are mainly serving Portuguese and African cuisine. If you are the type of person who loves spicy chicken, you would surely love this place as much as I do. However, if you can't tolerate spicy food, better not dine in this place because you might just end up hating it. (I hope this serves as a warning!)
This restaurant has a large seating area which can accommodate approximately 200 diners. The interior was mostly made of wood, giving the place a rustic vibe. There are also several large pots, paintings, and wall art around the place which are all eye-catching. Its casual ambiance will give you a more relaxed dining experience that feels much like home.
Upon entering the restaurant, we were promptly served by a staff who ushered us to our seats and handed us their menu. We also didn't have to wait that long for our order to be served, so we got the chance to really enjoy their savory dishes.
We had Espetada with two regular sides (AED 60). This main is basically a marinated chicken thigh and fresh pepper served on a skewer. In terms of presentation, this is an absolute winner! As per the taste, chicken was tender, juicy, and deliciously spicy while the fresh pepper was a perfect match to add just the right amount of crunch to this dish. This is definitely the kind of meal that doesn't only look good but taste good as well.
Of the two main course that we ordered, I love the famous signature Half Chicken dish (AED 55) more. This flame-grilled chicken marinated (for at least 24 hours) in peri-peri sauce also comes with two regular sides. It was served hot and appealing on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. For me, this dish is richer in flavor with each bite providing a forkful of comfort. This is perhaps the best peri-peri I have tasted so far. It also comes with two regular sides, ours were corn and spicy rice (yes, even the rice that they are serving is spicy) but you can also have fries, coleslaw, assorted chips, and potato wedges as another option. However, I find the sweetness of the corn perfect in neutralizing the spicy flavor of the chicken. That's why for me, these two are an excellent pair.
To be honest, their chicken dishes are already good enough even without a dipping sauce. However, in case you want to add more flavor on your plate, Nando's has four different peri-peri sauce that you can choose from: wild herb, garlic, mild, and hot. Just be careful not to put too much on your plate because these sauce are really spicy. I super love their wild herb peri-peri sauce though.
We really had a great dining experience at Nando's. Undoubtedly, they have the best peri-peri that money can buy! I would therefore highly recommend this place to all spicy chicken lovers out there. Dine in this place and give their delicious peri-peri a try!
